Pregnancy is a time of great shifts, and one of those might be letting go of a favorite weekly yoga class, but it doesn’t have to be. Getting a pregnant or postpartum student in your general population class can be both a challenge and opportunity. As yoga teachers, we wish to make the yogic and asana practice accessible to all; however, the birthing body has many contraindications and considerations that require our understanding and ability to apply in real time. Instead of just telling our pregnant student to “listen to their body,” can we, as yoga teachers, offer more specific and nurturing guidance that feels fluid to both us and the student?
In this workshop, led by Lauren Shields, doula and perinatal yoga specialist, you’ll gain an understanding of the anatomical needs of the birthing body, how to make quick modifications that strengthen their practice instead of holding them back, and learn ways to create an environment that is both welcoming and supportive of your birthing clients. Eligible for Yoga Alliance CEUs.
